3 Ways to Breathe Cleaner Air for a Healthier Home

October 19th, 2020

woman-blowing-noseYou might not realize this, but there’s a very good chance that your indoor air quality is worse than that of outdoors. At least, this is true if your home doesn’t have the right indoor air quality products and services in place. And it’s especially true if you have a newer home. This is because homes today are built very tightly to allow for optimal HVAC efficiency—great news for your air conditioner or heater, but not so great for your allergy or asthma symptoms!

Fortunately, there are a number of indoor air quality solutions that can help with this! When you run either one of your HVAC units, they do draw in air, but the air filters that are in place aren’t designed to remove a high level of contaminants—those air filters are simply meant to protect the HVAC systems themselves. It’s time to look beyond the standard HVAC air filter! Consider these 3 methods to improve indoor air quality.

How to Get Your Heat Pump Unstuck From Cooling Mode

September 7th, 2020

man-looking-cold-in-front-of-thermostatWhile you probably don’t need to use a heating system quite yet, cooler daytime temperatures are right around the corner! And once fall hits in earnest, you’ll be glad to have a fully functional and efficiently working heating system in place. So what you are using a heat pump, and it seems to be stuck in cooling mode?

First, you’ll want to check to see if the thermostat is actually set in heating mode. Sure, this seems obvious, but there is always the chance that a member of your household switched it back over because they preferred a different temperature than you. Assuming that you’ve checked this and the heat pump is blowing out cold air when you switched it over to heat, it likely means your heat pump is, in fact, stuck in cooling mode. But how does this occur, and what should you do about it? The answer to the latter is “call our pros!” but as for how this occurs, read on.

technician-working-on-furnace

It may seem like it’s way too early to even think about our heaters. After all, this past week was in the mid-high 80s! Yet, there is no denying that once October hits, it’s pretty clear that cooler temps are here to stay. When that happens, you want to ensure you have a fully effective and highly efficient heating system to keep your household warm, comfortable, healthy, and safe.

We usually recommend that folks schedule this important heating service in the Fall, before they need their systems the most. The key here is consistency–we would like to see you scheduling your furnace or heat pump maintenance every year or every 6 months, respectively. Yes, it’s best to schedule your heater maintenance when temps are still on the warmer side, but it’s better to have it done routinely than not at all! Wondering why? Read on!

August 10th, 2020

This is particularly true if you skipped maintenance this past spring. Professional maintenance allows our technicians to thoroughly inspect, clean, and adjust your air conditioner to ensure it performs powerfully, operates efficiently, and doesn’t give you any unexpected surprises over the summer season.

Are You Using Your Thermostat Correctly?

July 27th, 2020

woman-using-thermostatMaybe you’re rolling your eyes at this question. “Is there really a right or wrong way to use a thermostat? It’s such a simple device! How could I be using it incorrectly?”

We get it, the thermostat is one of the smallest components of your air conditioning system and it can seem a bit absurd that we’d suggest you’re not using it to the best of its ability. But, the truth is, the way you use (or don’t use) your thermostat can have a significant impact on the efficiency of your air conditioner–and your heater, for that matter.

The thermostat serves as the brain of your HVAC systems. If it’s not sending the right signals to your climate control equipment, then that equipment won’t work right, either. Read on as we dive into this topic a bit further.

One AC Myth You Should Never Believe

July 13th, 2020

woman-looking-surprisedYou may hear a lot of advice over the years on how to boost efficiency and performance for your air conditioner. Some of this advice is worth listening to—investing in professional maintenance for your cooling system, changing your air filter every 1-3 months, clearing out the space surrounding your outdoor unit—and some is, well, not.

For instance, have you ever heard from an HVAC “professional” that your air conditioner’s refrigerant is something that needs to be refilled on a routine basis? Unfortunately, they may be telling you this because either they actually believe this is the case—meaning they aren’t actually a trained and experienced professional—or they’re trying to get more money from you.

The one AC myth you should never believe is that your refrigerant needs to be refilled, what we call recharged, every maintenance session. Read on to learn what’s wrong with this concept!
