ac-vent-near-floorWhere would we be without the modern convenience of air conditioning? Certainly not comfortable in our homes this summer, that’s for sure! Of course, just having a cooling system in place isn’t always enough. We also want to stay comfortable affordably.

That said, your air conditioner—as nice as it is to have—may not be keeping up to the standards you expect of it. Maybe it doesn’t reach the desired temperature on your thermostat fast enough, or perhaps it costs you too much to run from month-to-month.

But, there could be something—actually there could be a several somethings—you can do to boost your air conditioner’s efficiency and therefore keep your AC in good shape at the peak of summer, while costing you as little as possible.

How Healthy Is the Air You Breathe?

July 1st, 2019

interior-of-homeWe’re not talking about the air outdoors—that comes with its own challenges. Your indoor air can actually be of worse quality than that of the outdoors, without the right indoor air quality products or services in place.

The “problem” is that homes today are built very tightly. This means that no air is allowed to escape out of crevices, or drafty windows or doors. Everything is sealed up quite nice, which is great news for the efficiency of your cooling and heating system! But it’s not the best news for any allergy or asthma sufferers in your household.

There are a number of indoor air quality products that might benefit you, but today we’re going to talk about the whole-home air purifier in Whitehall, PA, and why it surpasses portable air purifiers in improving the health of the air you breathe.

Heed These Signs of AC System Problems

June 17th, 2019

technician-working-on-air-conditionerComparatively speaking, our summers are fairly mild in our part of the country. Still though, heat is relative to what we’re used to—so when an air conditioner breaks down on an 80°F+ day, we have a right to complain! Of course, we don’t ever want you to reach that point, if we can help it. The best way to prevent any problems with your air conditioner is by scheduling annual maintenance with a professional—or biannual maintenance if you have a year-round heat pump.

But even with maintenance, repair needs can still crop up. Ignoring or delaying them can only cause more harm to your AC system. Some good news in all of this is that most AC repair issues do give out signs and symptoms well before they cause your system to break down entirely. While we would never recommend a homeowner formally diagnosing or trying to repair a faulty AC by themselves, you can certainly spot the signs that you need air conditioning repair, and give us a call from there.

What Is Geothermal Cooling All About?

May 6th, 2019

animated-picture-of-white-house-with-geothermal-tubes-going-into-groundWhen you think about air conditioning and heating systems, you probably envision the traditional central split air conditioner and furnace combination. After all, that’s what most homes in our area are equipped with.

And when most people hear the term geothermal, they’re likely to think of heat. This makes sense–after all, the word thermal is right there in the name. As a matter of fact, geothermal heat pump systems are, indeed, a great way to bring warmth into a home. That’s not all they do, though!

It’s That Time Again: Schedule Your Next Tune-Up

April 22nd, 2019

clock-imposed-on-white-backgroundWhile last week’s little heat wave wasn’t a great example, we still have a little while left before we need to turn on our central air conditioning systems on a daily basis. But if that sudden increase in temperature was a sign of anything, it’s that when summer comes, it hits hard and you want to ensure that your air conditioner is very well prepared.

Regular preventive maintenance helps our technicians ensure that your cooling system is ready for the added strain of the summer heat. Neglecting maintenance for too long, or skipping it altogether, will make it more likely that you’ll face problems by the end of the cooling season or sooner. Read on to learn more about cooling system tune-ups and there benefits.

Is it Time for an Energy Audit on Your Home?

April 8th, 2019

cardboard-house-cutout-being-held-against-blue-skyHere’s the thing about homes today—if yours was built in the last decade or so, it was constructed tightly. What does that mean? Well, it means that everything is tightly sealed to allow no air from going out and no outside air from sneaking in. This is great news for your HVAC systems, as it allows them to work as efficiently as possible. This isn’t, however, fool-proof

The fact of the matter is, over the years your windows and doors can develop drafts. Your ductwork can degrade to the point that you have conditioned air leaking into unused spaces such as your attic or crawlspace. You may have an aging HVAC system that’s performing inefficiently, or aging insulation that’s not keeping your home warm or cool, depending on the season. Fortunately, there is an answer to these obstacles—a home energy audit!

A Furnace That Does This May Fail On You Soon

March 11th, 2019

shocked-woman-covering-earsThis time of the year, when spring is almost here but winter temperatures are still gracing us with their presence, is a lousy time to have your heating system develop problems. It’s also the time of the year when heating system problems are most likely to happen, thanks to the stress they’ve been put under all season long. If you can detect problems in your heater early enough, though, you can have them repaired before they develop too far.

A furnace system that’s clearly showing signs of disrepair, though, that isn’t inspected, can fail you before the season is over, or never even start up next fall.

We can’t stress enough how important it is to watch for signs that something is amiss. One of the most common signs is a furnace that’s making strange noises. Keep reading to learn more about common problem noises, and what causes them.
