Believe it or not, back-to-school time is just around the corner. This means it’s almost time to start shopping for your kids clothes, school supplies, and anything else they need to get ready for the school year.
If you’ve been considering any upgrades to your home, then now is a great time to consider turning your home into a “smart home” too.
How are these two things related? Well, we are sure that you want your kids to be as safe and comfortable as possible after a long school day. Whether you pick them up from school yourself, they walk home to where you’re waiting, or you’re at work and they’re getting dropped of, you should be able to rest easy that from the moment they walk in the door, they’ll have those needs met.
How can we help? With the installation of the products we’ve listed below. Read on to learn more!
Smart Thermostats
Smart thermostats have become the leader in thermostat technology and for good reason. What makes them “smart” is their ability to learn from your thermostat settings and use this data to create their own programs that maximize energy use.
With standard digital thermostats, you can program them to run at a particular temperature all day, and it’s true that you can set it higher and that will improve energy efficiency. But then you and your family come home to a warm home.
Smart thermostats and something called geofencing resolves this problem! Geofencing is a method to automatically control your smart thermostat according to your location. When you are traveling home from work (or in your kids’ case, school), the geofencing feature will detect when you are a few miles away, and can turn down the temperature setting on your smart thermostat by a few degrees so that you and your family are immediately comfortable the moment you step in the door.
This means you don’t have to run your air for 8+ hours at a low temperature when nobody is home–but having it on during the day is more efficient than having it off since an air conditioner has to run longer to achieve the cool temperature you want, the hotter it starts off in the house.

Smart Locks
Have you ever forgotten to lock the door when you left for work? Even if your answer is “no, never!” there is always a chance that it could happen. Even more, there’s a chance that your child could forget as they’re leaving for school in a rush, or coming back after a long day to settle down with a snack and their homework.
Smart locks let you check right there on your phone if the door is locked or unlocked, and you can activate it from your home too.
Smart Garage Door Opener
This has the same concept as the smart locks–a smart garage door opener can be controlled remotely from your smartphone, mobile device, or any computer where you have an internet connection. Just log into your smart device app and you can check to see if the garage door is open or closed, and control it from wherever you are.
Smart Security Camera
Security cameras are always a good idea, for any home. Smart security cameras take the safety of you and your family a step further by allowing you to check on areas of your home that you want to. You can choose to have audio connected to your smart security cameras as well so that you can address visitors, whether you are in the property or not.
