Do You Need to Add Humidity to Your Home?

Monday, November 16th, 2020

woman-in-sweats-hugging-pillow-looking-coldIt’s no secret that the fall and winter seasons bring some pretty chilly temperatures to our area. You’re probably already dreading going out to your car in the morning if you’re traveling to work, school, or errands. But at least you have your nice, comfortable home to return to at the end of the day, right?

What if your home isn’t as comfortable as it could be when temperatures have dropped? Does it signal a heater problem? Well, it could. But oftentimes it’s not actually your furnace or heat pump that’s the problem, but rather the lack of humidity in your home.

While summertime brings excess moisture and makes us feel a lot warmer than it actually is outside, wintertime does the opposite. The good news is, there’s something you can do about it! Contact us about installing a whole-house humidifier in your home.

How to Get Your Heat Pump Unstuck From Cooling Mode

Monday, September 7th, 2020

man-looking-cold-in-front-of-thermostatWhile you probably don’t need to use a heating system quite yet, cooler daytime temperatures are right around the corner! And once fall hits in earnest, you’ll be glad to have a fully functional and efficiently working heating system in place. So what you are using a heat pump, and it seems to be stuck in cooling mode?

First, you’ll want to check to see if the thermostat is actually set in heating mode. Sure, this seems obvious, but there is always the chance that a member of your household switched it back over because they preferred a different temperature than you. Assuming that you’ve checked this and the heat pump is blowing out cold air when you switched it over to heat, it likely means your heat pump is, in fact, stuck in cooling mode. But how does this occur, and what should you do about it? The answer to the latter is “call our pros!” but as for how this occurs, read on.

Monday, August 24th, 2020

technician-working-on-furnace

It may seem like it’s way too early to even think about our heaters. After all, this past week was in the mid-high 80s! Yet, there is no denying that once October hits, it’s pretty clear that cooler temps are here to stay. When that happens, you want to ensure you have a fully effective and highly efficient heating system to keep your household warm, comfortable, healthy, and safe.

We usually recommend that folks schedule this important heating service in the Fall, before they need their systems the most. The key here is consistency–we would like to see you scheduling your furnace or heat pump maintenance every year or every 6 months, respectively. Yes, it’s best to schedule your heater maintenance when temps are still on the warmer side, but it’s better to have it done routinely than not at all! Wondering why? Read on!

Are You Using Your Thermostat Correctly?

Monday, July 27th, 2020

woman-using-thermostatMaybe you’re rolling your eyes at this question. “Is there really a right or wrong way to use a thermostat? It’s such a simple device! How could I be using it incorrectly?”

We get it, the thermostat is one of the smallest components of your air conditioning system and it can seem a bit absurd that we’d suggest you’re not using it to the best of its ability. But, the truth is, the way you use (or don’t use) your thermostat can have a significant impact on the efficiency of your air conditioner–and your heater, for that matter.

The thermostat serves as the brain of your HVAC systems. If it’s not sending the right signals to your climate control equipment, then that equipment won’t work right, either. Read on as we dive into this topic a bit further.

One AC Myth You Should Never Believe

Monday, July 13th, 2020

woman-looking-surprisedYou may hear a lot of advice over the years on how to boost efficiency and performance for your air conditioner. Some of this advice is worth listening to—investing in professional maintenance for your cooling system, changing your air filter every 1-3 months, clearing out the space surrounding your outdoor unit—and some is, well, not.

For instance, have you ever heard from an HVAC “professional” that your air conditioner’s refrigerant is something that needs to be refilled on a routine basis? Unfortunately, they may be telling you this because either they actually believe this is the case—meaning they aren’t actually a trained and experienced professional—or they’re trying to get more money from you.

The one AC myth you should never believe is that your refrigerant needs to be refilled, what we call recharged, every maintenance session. Read on to learn what’s wrong with this concept!

“Is It Worth Repairing an AC Compressor, or Should I Replace?”

Monday, June 29th, 2020

compressor-inside-ac-unitHere’s the thing—you can’t repair an air conditioner’s compressor if it breaks down. The compressor of your air conditioner is essentially the heart of the system, responsible for allowing the refrigerant process that even makes it possible for your cooling system to… well… cool.

So, if that’s the case, why are we even writing this blog post? If repairing the compressor isn’t possible, isn’t the only option to replace it?

Well… here’s the thing. The real question you should be asking here is, “should I replace my AC compressor, replace the outside unit of my cooling system, or replace the entire air conditioner?” To be honest, the answer to this is, “it depends” and that’s why this blog post is so important. When it comes down to it, it may simply be best to replace the entire air conditioner, and here’s why:

Is the Air You Breathe Indoors Actually Healthy?

woman-sitting-in-modern-living-room-enjoying-comfortThe official start of summer is just around the corner, and with us spending so much time indoors lately, you surely want to try to be as comfortable as possible. This starts with making sure your air conditioner is well maintained of course. If you haven’t scheduled spring maintenance yet, it’s not too late!

Indoor comfort, however, also has a lot to do with the quality of the air you breathe. Regardless of the time of year or circumstances, poor indoor air quality is a large concern for homeowners. Virus transmission is a risk, and contaminants such as pollen, dust, and smoke can get trapped in the home and cause allergy and asthma complications. Long-term exposure to poor IAQ can produce chronic symptoms, too, like fatigue and respiratory distress.

The good news is, there are solutions to this! Read on to learn more.
